Blue Sapphire

Mainly originating from Sri Lanka, Burma and Madagascar. Also known as the Neelam stone, is one of the most valuable gemstones as of today. It is combined with iron and titanium chromophore which gives off the colour. Did you know that a particular natural blue sapphire, known as the Burmese sapphire which weighed around 114.4-carat was sold at a high of 7.2 million USD? Till today, blue sapphire remains as one of the rarest gemstones in the world.

It's rarity only makes it a prized possession for royalties in the 14th century. It's also known for being a 9 in the Mohs scale which scales from 1 to 10. With 10 being Diamond. This is why sapphires are a good alternatives to engagement rings. Blue Sapphire is also a member of the corundum family. 5 carats and above in blue sapphire Unheated can be pricey as those are known to be more scarce.
